Fall has finally arrived and with our grocery coop carrying an array of local orchard apples, it was the perfect week to make this apple crisp. We used our rum toddy toffee sauce to not only spoon over the apple crisp but to toss the apples with prior to cooking. It turned out absolutely delicious and will now be my go-to apple crisp recipe!
Apple Crisp with Rum Sauce
Ingredients:
2 1/2 Cups Rolled Oats
3 cups Apples peeled cored and sliced (approximately 6-7 large apples) (I used NH local honey crisp apples from Windy Ridge Orchard.) *add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice over apples to keep them from browning
1/2 Cup Wozz! Rum Toddy Toffee Dessert Sauce
1 Cup Flour
2 Sticks Unsalted Butter chilled and cut into 1/2 inch cubes
1 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
Vanilla Ice Cream
Method:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
In a large bowl, combine apples and Wozz! Rum Toddy Toffee Dessert Sauce. Toss apples until evenly coated with sauce.
In a separate large bowl, combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, and pieces of butter. With your hands massage the butter into the mixture until it is combined and large chunks form.
Spoon your apple mixture into baking pan (we used a 8x10 - 2 quart) pan. Top apples with crumble mixture. Bake until apples are tender and topping is nice and browned - approximately 55 minutes.
Serve with vanilla ice cream and top with additional Wozz! Rum Toddy Toffee Dessert Sauce.
