Date and Orange Chicken
Dates are hands down a great ingredient to cook with, while very popular in Australia, it seems that some Americans tend to shy away from dates, thinking their an "old person's food"....kind of like prunes for some reason. But dates are delicious, they add such a deep caramel flavor to so many dishes. Our Sticky Date Candied Orange Chutney is the perfect accompaniment to this chicken dish. The dates add a caramelized sweetness while the candied oranges add a citrus pop that balances the sweet. This recipe is so easy to make because using our chutney cuts out most of the work!
Date and Orange Chicken
Ingredients:
Bone in Chicken with skin on - approximately 6 pieces (I used thighs and drumsticks)
Wozz! Sticky Date Candied Orange Chutney
1/3 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1 Orange Sliced
Fresh Thyme Sprigs
2 Tbs Olive Oil or Avocado Oil
Preheat oven to 425 degrees F
Season chicken with salt and pepper. In large skillet on medium high heat, add oil and sear chicken on each side until nice and golden brown (approximately 5-7 minutes). Once nice and seared. Remove from skillet and set aside.
Add sliced oranges to bottom of skillet, add springs of thyme, place seared chicken breast on top of oranges, drizzle 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar into skillet and top each chicken breast with a spoonful of Wozz! Sticky Date Candied Orange Chutney, add a few more springs of thyme and bake for 40-45 minutes, until chicken is cooked through and golden brown.
Serve.
