French Onion Grilled Cheese with Bacon, Apple and Onion Jam
This is the ultimate grill cheese for a cozy Fall day. It's a French onion style grilled cheese with cheddar, melty Gruyére cheese, crispy bacon, shaved turkey, our Triple Ale Onion Jam Spread and Dijon mayonnaise. It's pan fried in sage butter which adds another layer of delicious Fall flavor.
French Onion Grilled Cheese with Bacon, Apple and Onion Jam (makes 2 sandwiches)
Ingredients:
Bread (White Tuscan)
6 Bacon Slices - over baked until crisp or you can cook in pan (however you prefer)
Deli Shaved Turkey
1/2 Green Apple - sliced on a mandolin or thinly by hand
Gruyére Cheese
Cheddar
Dijon
Mayonnaise
Wozz! Triple Ale Onion Jam Spread
Salt and Pepper
2 Tbsp Butter - soft
12 Fresh Sage Leaves - chopped
Method:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F to cook your bacon
Place bacon on a parchment paper lined baking tray. Bake at 350 F for 20-30 minutes (or until crispy). You can increase the temperature and reduce the time (400 degrees for 15 minutes or so if you prefer). Drain on paper towel and set aside.
Combine the chopped sage and butter, spread evenly over one side of each slice of bread.
In a small bowl, combine mayonnaise and Dijon mustard to a ratio of 1:1 and set aside.
Slice the apple thinly with a mandolin or by hand. I then sliced the apple slices into matchsticks but you can leave them in slices if preferred. Keep in water with a little lemon juice to stop browning until you are ready to build your sandwiches.
Spread the Dijonaise (Dijon mayo mix) on the other side of each bread slice.
Build your Sandwich:
Start with one buttered bread slice, buttered side down
Next spread a layer of Dijonaise (Dijon Mayo mix)
Add Turkey Slices
Add Gruyere cheese
Add Green apple slices/matchsticks
Add Crispy Bacon
Spread on Wozz! Triple Ale Onion Jam
Finally Add Your Grated Cheddar
Take your two open sandwiches and transfer to a non stick pan. Cook until there is a little browning on the bottom bread slice.
Transfer open sandwiches to a baking tray and bake sandwiches uncovered at 350 F for 10-15 minutes. Long enough until the cheese is melted and the sandwich is warmed through. If your cheese slices are a little on the thick side, you may need to keep in the oven longer until satisfactorily melted.
While open sandwiches a warming through, pan fry the remaining bread slices until golden brown and spread Dijonnaise on the bare side of bread.
Once your sandwiches are warmed through and the cheese is melted, crown with the last bread slice and enjoy!!
** If you don't want to put this in the oven, you can also just put this all together and fry in a pan like a classic grilled cheese or add to a panini press**
