The Best Jams and Spreads To Pair with Goats Cheese

The Best Jams and Spreads To Pair with Goats Cheese

Goats cheese or "chevre" is a soft creamy fresh cheese made from goats milk and usually comes in a log form.  It's flavor is mild yet tangy and slightly earthy.  There are quite a few varieties of goats cheese made, some are aged and covered in a rind or ash and some are combined with different cheeses such as "goat brie" or "goat gouda". These aged varieties will typically have a more creamy crumbly and richer texture.

The most well known and accessible form of goats cheese is the fresh chevre that you frequently see in the cheese section of most grocery stores.  It's quite versatile and easily adapted to any cheese board or charcuterie plate.  It can be paired with a variety of jams, jellies, spreads and chutneys in both sweet savory and savory pairings and lends itself to a variety of recipes from appetizers and dips to pasta and salads.

Below are our recommendations for the best jams, jellies, spreads and condiments to pair with goats cheese in a variety of ways from sandwiches to appetizer dips, cheese plates and more.

1. Fig Spread, Fig Jam or Fig Mostarda

Fig spread or fig jam is a classic accompaniment to a cheese plate and pairs particularly well with goats cheese.  We often serve our Balsamic Fig Mostarda over goats cheese with a drizzle of honey, on toasted crostini with goats cheese and prosciutto or spooned over a whipped goats cheese dip.  For a tasty sandwich spread balsamic fig jam on a goats cheese grilled cheese with arugula, tomato and ham.

2. Onion Jam

Our Triple Ale Onion Jam Spread is made with sweet caramelized onions, brown sugar, roasted garlic and a trio of ales.  It's fantastic as a quick appetizer spread - spooned into mini pastry tart shells with goats cheese and a sprinkle of thyme and baked.  It also can be used as an alternative "onion spread" pizza base for a butternut squash, sage, bacon and goats cheese pizza.   Add it to a cheese plate with aged goats cheese and cured sausage, to a grilled goats cheese and bacon panini or add to a quiche.

Pictured Below:  Mini Pastry Tarts with Wozz! Onion Jam and Goats Cheese

3. Hot Pepper Jelly

A hot pepper jelly adds a sweet savory and spicy bite to goats cheese on crackers, on a toasted bagel or spread on a grilled sandwich.  We enjoy our Thai Hot Pepper Jelly on a goats cheese panini with spinach and bacon and spooned over a warm baked goats cheese dip.

4. Bruschetta Caponata Relish

Bruschetta Caponata is an Italian savory eggplant and red pepper relish with tomato, Sicilian green olives and capers that is an incredibly delicious savory pairing for goats cheese.  Spoon our bruschetta caponata relish over softened goats cheese with a drizzle of olive oil, Italian herbs and chopped salami and serve with crackers.  Add goats cheese, a bruschetta relish and spinach to your next omelet or pasta dish.

5. Pickled Beets or Beet Relish

Pickled beets and goats cheese is a match made in heaven and is a well favored pairing in salads such as in a beet, orange and goats cheese salad or a panzanella beet salad.  Crostini with goats cheese, beet relish and a sprinkle of greens makes a wonderful summer appetizer and a pickled beet relish spread onto toasted sourdough with goats cheese makes a delectable sandwich.

Pictured Below:  Pickled Beet Pizza with Goats Cheese, Burrata, Arugula and Walnuts

6. Wild Blueberry Jam or Blueberry Compote

Our Wild Blueberry Compote is a favorite of ours to pair with an ash ripened or aged goats cheese.  This blueberry maple compote with toasted walnuts, balsamic and rosemary has a rich sweet and tangy flavor profile making it a wonderful accompaniment to goats cheese on a cheese plate with charcuterie or paté.  Serve a blueberry compote or blueberry jam pan sauce over roasted duck or pork tenderloin with a sprinkle of goats cheese and fresh herbs for an easy yet classy dinner.

7. Sour Cherry Spread, Cherry Jam or Compote

Our Sour Cherry Spiced Wine Fruit Compote is a perfect pick for the holidays.  Gorgeous glistening sour cherries are poached in red wine compote sauce with aromatic spices.  Drizzle our sour cherry compote over mini pastry tarts with goats cheese and a sprinkle of rosemary or spread over goats cheese crostini for a quick and easy appetizer.  A sour cherry compote or jam is also fantastic when used as a pan sauce with a little butter and poured over pork chops or pork tenderloin with a sprinkle of goats cheese and fresh herbs.

8. Dried Fruit Chutney

A dried fruit chutney is a wonderful pairing for goats cheese during the fall and winter months and is especially fitting for the holiday season.  Our Winter Spiced Fruits and Honey Confit is a dried fruit chutney with fresh orange, rosemary and honey and it is sweet, tangy, aromatic and just spectacular!  It's fabulous spooned over a goats cheese log with fruit and nut crackers and makes a lovely addition to a duck crostini with goats cheese and arugula.

9.  Tomato Relish

A tomato relish is a wonderful savory pairing for goats cheese.  It can be added to a bruschetta style crostini with crumbled goats cheese sprinkled over top or mixed into a grain salad with goats cheese and fresh greens and a splash of vinegar.  We pair our savory, spiced and rich Moroccan Tomato Onion Relish with goats cheese is a number of recipes including Moroccan tomato meatballs, Moroccan tomato grilled chicken and over flatbreads or pizza with crumbled goats cheese, chorizo and arugula.

10.  Cranberry Chutney

A cranberry chutney with candied oranges, apples, raisins and spices makes a wonderful pairing for goats cheese appetizers especially during the holiday season.  For easy entertaining, you can add our cranberry chutney to goats cheese in a number of puff pastry appetizers with toasted nuts and fresh herbs or combine goats cheese with cream cheese and stir in cranberry chutney for a quick and easy holiday dip.

11. Honey

Honey is a classic accompaniment to goats cheese.  It adds just a bit of sweetness to the tangy goats cheese and can be combined with fig jam and toasted pistachios or pecans to serve with goats cheese.  Honey can be drizzled over chevre stuffed dates with walnuts, mixed into a whipped goats cheese dip or simply served alongside a cheese plate.

Best and Easiest Ways To Use Pickled Beet Relish

Best and Easiest Ways To Use Pickled Beet Relish

Pickled beets are a pantry staple that many of us grew up with.  Fresh beets harvested from the garden and pickled by our grandparents were added to the table most dinner nights to serve alongside many "meat and potato" type dinners.   Pickled beets evoke a nostalgic memorable taste and the balance of sweet and tangy is just wonderfully "more-ish".  We here at Wozz! make an Indian Spiced Pickled Beet Relish that takes the traditional pickled beet just a step forward and gives it a little more depth of flavor with some added spices.  Nevertheless, this pickled beet relish can be used in the same context as a plain ole jar of pickled beets;  alongside roasted meats and potatoes, as an accompaniment to cold cuts and cheese platters or spooned over sandwiches and burgers.  Here are our best and easiest ways to use pickled beet relish.

Serve Pickled Beet Relish with Grilled and Roasted Meats

Simply add a jar of pickled beet relish to the dinner table just like you would a jar of pickles.  Serve alongside roasted chicken, beef, grilled flank steak, duck or sausages and potatoes for a sweet and tangy pickle-y side.   You can also serve pickled beet relish at your next BBQ bash.  Let your guests spoon a little beet relish over their hot dogs, sausages and lamb burgers.

Serve Pickled Beet Relish with Cold Cuts and Appetizer Plates

Pickled beets, pickled beet relish or beet chutney makes a wonderful accompaniment to simple meat and cheese platters.  Serve with sliced ham, salami, roast beef, turkey, Swiss cheese or provolone slices.  Add additional accompaniments including crackers, vegetable crudités, hummus and olives.

Use as a Sandwich Condiment

Pickled beet relish makes a tasty sandwich condiment!  Add to a goats cheese and arugula grilled cheese, a veggie hummus sandwich, a ham and cheddar wrap, an egg salad sandwich or a roast beef roll with lettuce and horseradish mayo.  So many options!

Pictured Below:  Hummus and Veggie Sandwich with Wozz! Indian Spiced Pickled Beet Relish

Make A Dip

Mix a couple tablespoons of beet relish with Greek yogurt or sour cream for a zippy dip or beet tzatziki that can be used for warm pita chips or to spoon over burgers, wraps, falafel, fritters and lamb meatballs.  Blend beet relish with chickpeas, tahini and a little lemon juice to make a pickled beet hummus or mix into cream cheese or cottage cheese and serve with crackers.

As a Cheese Pairing Accompaniment

Serve pickled beets or pickled beet relish with a blue cheese such as Roquefort or gorgonzola or with chevre or cheddar and serve with seeded crackers.  Mix beet relish into a whipped feta dip and serve with veggies and warm pita.

As A Burger Condiment

Add pickled beet relish and a fried egg to your bacon cheeseburger for the ultimate Australian style burger!   Mix our Indian Spiced Pickled Beet Relish with yogurt and spoon over a grilled lamb burger or veggie burger for a flavor twist.

Add To Salads

Toss a few spoonfuls of pickled beet relish through a simple green salad with goats cheese and croutons or add to a Greek salad with feta.  Another option is to toss through chickpea and lentil salads with fresh herbs with a little extra splash of oil and vinegar.

Make a Salad Dressing or Vinaigrette

Add 1-2 tablespoons of our Indian Spiced Pickled Beet Relish to a little olive oil and red wine or balsamic vinegar for a quick and easy vinaigrette.  Mix beet relish with yogurt or sour cream and spoon over an arugula and fresh mint salad with grilled lamb chops.

Favorite Condiments and Sauces For Eggs

Favorite Condiments and Sauces For Eggs

If you are like me, you love eggs - scrambled, poached or fried for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  Served on buttery toast with a side of crispy bacon or ham, with sauteed mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, fresh avocado, fried halloumi cheese or crispy potatoes, the classic accompaniments and sides are all good in my opinion.  There are so many options to making the ultimate egg breakfast and it all can be elevated even further with the right sauce.  From barbecue to ketchup to hot sauce with a lot of special sauces in between, here are our favorite condiments and sauces for eggs and sides of any kind.

Hot Sauce

Hot sauce is my absolute go-to for my morning eggs (and I don't think I am alone in this addiction).  Whether it be our Serrano Cilantro Lime Hot Sauce on buttery velvety scrambled eggs with flame grilled flatbread or a little sriracha on my fried egg and cheese sandwich, hot sauce adds a zingy uplifting bite.  It's a must have if you are making any Mexican style breakfast from burritos or Huevos rancheros.

Pictured Below:  Scrambled Eggs with Wozz! Serrano Cilantro Lime Hot Sauce

Scrambled Eggs with Serrano Hot Sauce

Barbecue Sauce

Add barbecue sauce to a fried egg, cheese and ham breakfast roll or add to a steak and egg sandwich.  You can also add our Korean Gochujang BBQ Sauce to this shaved steak and egg burrito breakfast sandwich (it's so so so good!)

Pictured Below:  Shaved Steak Breakfast Burrito with Wozz! Korean Barbecue Sauce

Korean BBQ Breakfast Burrito

Sambal

Sambal is another form of hot sauce but it's got a little more depth and consistency to it.  Our Super Hot Chili Sambal is an Asian style sambal, made with fresh ground chilis. It has a hint of sweetness with fresh lemon tang (vs vinegar tang that you get with more traditional hot sauce) and it's seasoned with fish sauce.  It's pretty hot - a little goes a long way.  Spoon a little on your poached eggs on toast, spread it on a breakfast sandwich or wrap or drizzle on scrambled eggs, hard boiled eggs or an omelet.

Pictured Below:  Poached Eggs on Avocado Toast with Hot Chili Sambal

Moroccan Tomato Sauce

If you have never experienced Moroccan Shakshuka then you are missing out on a hearty full flavored breakfast indulgence!  It sounds complicated and looks like it maybe a little too sophisticated and difficult to make but it's actually pretty easy.  You simply add crushed tomatoes, diced onions and red peppers to a skillet with Moroccan seasonings (or you can use our Moroccan Tomato Onion Relish), cook it out and then make little wells in the sauce and poach your eggs .  Then you let it simmer while covered and serve your eggs and Moroccan sauce on toast.  It's a wonderful breakfast dish for a winter weekend or Sunday brunch.

Picture Below:  Moroccan Tomato Shakshuka {poached eggs in a Moroccan Tomato Sauce}

Moroccan Shakshuka

Salsa Verde

Love that fresh zesty cilantro lime bite but without the overwhelming heat of a hot sauce?  Then salsa verde it is.  It's the perfect "green condiment" that is fresh and tangy to add atop scrambled eggs, breakfast burritos, frittatas and omelets.

Pickled Beet Relish

If you have ever had an Australian style café style breakfast than you have witnessed beets on the breakfast menu.  Beet hummus or pickled beets with poached eggs and sourdough is a classic Aussie beachside breakfast.   We make a beet hummus by combining our Indian Spiced Pickled Beet Relish with some chickpeas in a food processor and add it alongside some poached eggs with toasted sourdough, salad greens, sliced avocado and grilled halloumi cheese.

Pictured Below:  Poached Eggs with Pickled Beet Hummus

Pepper Jelly

Pepper Jelly adds a sweet and spicy addition to your fried egg, cheese and bacon English muffin sandwich and adds a nice pop of flavor to a frittata or omelet.  We like to add our Green Tomato Jalapeno Pepper Jelly to a southwest style egg and black bean wrap for a sweet spicy jalapeno bite.  You can also add a little dollop of hot pepper jelly onto a hard boiled egg.

Ketchup or a Tomato Based BBQ Sauce

Our Spicy Tomato Kasundi BBQ Sauce is a cross between a smoky BBQ sauce and a globally inspired tomato ketchup and it's pretty delicious on a breakfast sandwich or added to scrambled eggs with crispy potatoes.  You can also go with the tried and true staple that is ketchup but a little extra spice, depth and smokiness is always good with eggs.

1.  Sweet Chili Orange Sesame Sauce

Our Sweet Chili Orange Sesame Sauce is a fantastic marinade or glaze for broiled salmon and is a delicious dipping sauce for coconut shrimp and crumbed fish.  Toss sweet chili sauce with fried calamari or serve over crab cakes. It also can be warmed up on the stove top and served over crispy pan fried tilapia or cod (dust fish in a little flour and cook in a hot oiled pan, once golden on each side, pour your warm sweet chili sauce onto your fish, let simmer for a minute or so in the pan, remove and garnish with fresh cilantro, green onions and a squeeze of fresh lime).  So good!

2.  North African Chermoula Sauce

Chermoula is a bold lemon-y Moroccan marinade or spice blend that is traditionally used for fish and seafood.  It's made with preserved lemon, fresh cilantro and is packed full of spices including coriander, cumin, paprika, ginger and saffron.  It's a classic marinade for Moroccan fish tagines with potatoes, tomatoes and olives and is delicious over pan fried white fish such as mahi mahi or halibut.

3.  Kiwi Lime Salsa Verde

This salsa is fresh, tangy and vibrant, the kiwi does not make it sweet (in case you are wondering) and it's full of fresh lime, cilantro and smoky charred jalapenos!  Salsa Verde is the salsa to use on all your Mexican inspired fish and shrimp tacos.  From Baja style beer battered fried fish tacos to simple grilled fish tacos, it adds a spicy fresh kick.  It's also delicious served with fried calamari.

4.  Thai Orange and Ginger Relish

Thai Orange and Ginger Relish is a spicy tangy relish made with fresh orange and citrus, Thai curry spices, pickled carrot, ginger and cilantro.  We like to serve it with a white fish "en papillotte" style, which simply means wrapped in parchment paper or foil and baked in the oven.  It's healthy, clean, low calorie and delicious.  You can also add this relish to a fish curry with coconut milk or use as a condiment for shrimp tacos.

5.  Bruschetta Caponata Relish

Bruschetta Caponata is a Sicilian eggplant tomato relish with green olives, capers and garlic.  It's wonderful served over roasted white fish with olive oil and fresh chopped oregano.  It also can be used as a pasta sauce for a fish or seafood linguine.  Simply toss your cooked linguine with butter, fresh herbs, olive oil and a little salt and pepper, add your choice of seafood or cooked fish (clams, shrimp or fish), top with caponata relish and shaved parmesan.  Voila!

6.  Ginger Soy Sauce

Our Ginger Soy Sauce has a nice balance of sweet and citrus with tamari, rice wine vinegar, fresh ginger and garlic and makes a mouthwatering sticky sweet Asian glaze for salmon, white fish and tuna. You can also add this sauce to sesame seared scallops for a ginger soy glaze or use it as a "ponzu style" dipping sauce for shrimp dumplings, potstickers and sushi.

7.  Mango Chutney

Mango Chutney with it's fruity, gingery and spicy flavor profile is a fun delicious way to jazz up fish and seafood.  You can use it like a salsa and spoon it over grilled fish for a light summer meal or you can use it as a finishing sauce by adding it to your fish in the last few minutes of cooking in the oven (just until it's bubbly and a little sticky).  Adding a few fresh ingredients to your mango chutney, like fresh mint or cilantro and a squeeze of lime really livens it up when using it like a salsa especially for fish tacos!  We also love it with baked curry spiced salmon and as a dipping sauce for coconut shrimp.

8. Japanese Sesame Miso Sauce

Our Japanese Sesame Miso Sauce is made with dashi, toasty sesame, tahini, miso and mirin and it makes a delicious Japanese style glazing marinade for cod, mahi mahi, salmon and halibut.  It's also fantastic as a Japanese sesame dressing over tuna poke bowls.

9.  Vietnamese Mint Lime and Chili Sauce

This Vietnamese "nuoc cham" style sauce is a bright sweet tangy sauce with medium chili heat.  It's made with fresh sweetened lime, chili, fresh mint, garlic, sesame seeds, rice wine vinegar and fish sauce.  It's traditionally used as a dipping sauce for savory Vietnamese pancakes and fried fish and makes a zippy sweet and spicy dipping sauce for shrimp, rice paper rolls, spring rolls and shrimp dumplings.  Use it as a dressing for an Asian shrimp and noodle salad.

10.  Jamaican Jerk Pineapple Chutney

Liven up all your island style fish and seafood recipes with our Jamaican Jerk Pineapple Chutney.  Made with grilled pineapple, fresh lime, aromatic jerk spices and chili, this chutney adds a flavor pop to Jamaican jerk pan fried fish, blacked fish tacos and shrimp and rice dishes.  Add some fresh mint, lime and cucumber to this chutney for a pineapple style salsa perfect for swordfish.

11.  Date and Orange Chutney
Our Date and Orange Chutney with it's balance of sweet dates and tangy orange citrus makes an incredible topping for salmon.   Just simply pan sear your salmon on both sides until browned, top with date and orange chutney, a little chopped pistachios or almonds and broil for a couple minutes.

Best and Easiest Ways To Use Caponata

Best and Easiest Ways To Use Caponata

Caponata is a savory, slightly sweet and tangy Sicilian relish made with fresh seared or roasted eggplant, tomatoes, red peppers, Sicilian green olives, fresh garlic and capers.  There are some variations to the ingredient profile, some recipes contain celery and additional vegetables such as zucchini or black olives and most recipes use the combination of a sweetener (sugar, honey, etc.) with an acid such as red wine vinegar to preserve it and give it that slightly sweet yet tangy flavor profile.  Caponata is a delicious and is quite versatile in the kitchen.  It can be used in a variety of dishes from simple appetizer and cheese plates to hearty pasta dishes.  Here are our recommendations on the best ways to use our Bruschetta Caponata Relish or any caponata relish you have on hand or make at home.

1. Caponata Relish As A Topping For Grilled Breads and Crostini

An easy crowd-pleasing late summer appetizer is grilled crusty bread topped with our bruschetta caponata relish and a drizzle of olive oil and dash of salt and pepper.  It's both fresh and satisfying.  Add some burrata cheese or mozzarella to make it even more special.

4. Caponata As A Pasta Sauce

Add a jar of caponata relish to a can of tomato sauce for a extra flavorful pasta sauce (the garlic, seared eggplant and capers add so much flavor to the sauce, think of it as a ratatouille style pasta sauce).  Delicious over penne with a drizzle of fresh infused basil oil and shaved parmesan (also delicious when you add a little ground beef or sausage).

Best and Easiest Ways To Use Fruit Chutney

Best and Easiest Ways To Use Fruit Chutney

A fruit chutney is made by simmering chopped fruits and vegetables with added acidity from vinegar or citrus and adding spices and sometimes herbs. The balance of flavors in a fruit chutney is not as straight forward sweet as a fruit jam and not as sour as a pickle.  A fruit chutney has a balanced medley of sweet, tangy and savory flavors.

Depending on the varieties of fruit chutney they can be sweet tart and spiced such as in a traditional cranberry chutney with cranberries, sugar, aromatic sweet spices and orange or they can be more sweet and spicy such as in an Indian mango chutney with mango, vinegar, ginger, coriander and chili.  Bottom line is they are delicious and offer a complex flavor profile that lends itself to being quite versatile in the kitchen.  Fruit chutneys are a fantastic accompaniment to a variety of dishes from appetizers, to roasted meats to cheese plates, curries and sandwiches.  Here are our recommendations on how to best use a fruit chutney.

1.  An Accompaniment To Roasted Meats

Fruit chutney is a classic accompaniment for roasted meats.  From cranberry chutney to plum and apple chutney to an apricot and ginger chutney, they are a lovely addition to the table when serving roast turkey, pork tenderloin, pork chops, chicken, roast beef and duck.

Pictured Below:  Pork Tenderloin with Winter Spiced Fruits and Honey Confit Chutney

2.  Serve Fruit Chutney With Cheese

Chutney is a wonderful addition to any cheese plate.  Pair an aged cheddar with a sweet and spicy fruit chutney such as our Green Tomato Jalapeno or serve a blueberry chutney with an aged goats cheese.  Fig chutney is a cheese pairing pantry staple and works well with most cheese varieties including sharp blues, brie and goats cheese.  A caramelized onion chutney can be paired with cheddar, Manchego and stilton for a more savory cheese pairing spread.

Pictured Below:  Aged goats cheese paired with Wozz! Wild Blueberry Maple Walnut Fruit Compote

3.  In A Ploughman's Lunch

The British style Ploughman's lunch has all the fixings that go so well with a fruit chutney; crusty bread, cheddar cheese, pickles and cold cuts.  You add a little sweet savory and tangy chutney such as a mango chutney, tomato chutney or date chutney to this meal and all the flavors just come together.  Simple and delicious!

4.  As An Accompaniment To Indian Curries and Indian Cuisine

Indian cuisine and chutney go together hand in hand.  India is where chutneys originated and there are a ton of variations of Indian style chutneys from fresh savory herbaceous chutneys to hot spicy pickle chutneys.  The most popular chutney in the US is Major Grey's chutney which is a mango chutney.  It's delicious paired with Indian curries such as beef vindaloo and chicken tikka masala. The sweetness of the mango chutney actually helps balance the chili heat that comes when you eat spicy curries.

Pictured Below:  Indian Grilled Chicken with Mango Chutney and Cilantro Mint Sauce

5.  As A Salad Dressing Ingredient

Add a little sweetness and spice to a simple homemade vinaigrette recipe by adding a spoonful of chutney.  Simply whisk in a couple tablespoons of fruit chutney to your base of vinegar, lemon, honey, Dijon and salt and pepper.  Most chutney varieties will work from a plum chutney to a mango chutney.  You can also add a spoonful of fruit chutney to your coleslaw recipe.

6.  As an Accompaniment To A Charcuterie Board

Add a fruit chutney such as a cherry or fig chutney, green tomato chutney or caramelized onion spread to a charcuterie board of cured meats, crackers, cheese and pickles.  A little fruit chutney adds a beautiful addition to your charcuterie board and adds that sweet addition to the savory salty cured meats and pickles.

Pictured Below:  A Festive Fall Charcuterie Board with Savory Onion Jam

Charcuterie Board with Onion Jam Chutney

7.  As A Sandwich Condiment

A fruit chutney can be used a few different ways on a variety of sandwiches.  You can add a light layer of chutney to your bread, like on a simple ham and cheese sandwich or you can mix a little chutney in with your mayo.  You can also add a fruit chutney such as a cranberry, apricot or mango chutney to a chicken salad sandwich for a flavor pop.  I also like to glaze meatballs with a sweet and spicy pepper chutney and add them to a roll for a delicious meatball sub.

Pictured Below: Chicken Salad Sandwich with Cranberry Chutney

8.  Add Fruit Chutney To Puff Pastry Appetizers

A jar of fruit chutney is great to have on hand for easy puff pastry appetizers.  You can make so many appetizer varieties with chutney, cheese and puff pastry from mini tarts to pinwheels to baked brie en croute to puff pastry bundles.  A super simple recipe is mini tarts, just add a little bit of cheese to your mini tarts (goats cheese, brie, camembert), top with chutney and bake for 10 minutes, then garnish with chopped nuts or fresh herbs.  Entertaining made easy.

Pictured Below:  Brie Puff Pastry Appetizer with Cranberry Chutney

9.  Use Fruit Chutney As An Accompaniment To Grilled Fish and Seafood

A tropical style chutney is lovely with a nice piece of grilled fish such as mahi mahi, swordfish or halibut.  A mango or pineapple chutney is also fantastic with grilled shrimp. You can always elevate a jar of chutney by adding extra fresh ingredients to liven it up, you can add a squeeze of fresh citrus like lemon or lime to your chutney or add extra chopped cilantro or mint.  It gives it an extra pop, especially for fish and seafood.

Pictured Below:  Grilled Swordfish with Jamaican Jerk Pineapple Chutney

10. Pair Fruit Chutney with Grilled Meats

Serving chutney alongside grilled meats adds a punch of flavor to really simple meals such as grilled chicken breasts, flank steak or pork chops.  A tropical style chutney such as mango or pineapple is delicious in the summertime with grilled chicken or pork chops.  A spiced dried fruit or cherry chutney is well suited for fall and winter when you are using a grill plate indoors or pan searing something like pork chops or sausages.

Pictured Below:  Jerk Grilled Chicken with Jamaican Pineapple Chutney

11.  Use Fruit Chutney As A Topping For Baked Brie

What is a holiday table without a baked brie with fruit chutney?  It's a classic pairing that we all love and crave every holiday season.  An apricot or dried fruit chutney or fig jam is often times used in a brie en croute but a blueberry or spiced cherry compote is also delicious choice.  You can also add additional toppings to your chutney to spoon over the baked brie including chopped nuts such as walnuts or pecans and fresh herbs such as rosemary and thyme.

Baked Brie with Sour Cherry Fruit Compote, Pecans and Thyme

Baked Brie with Sour Cherry Wine Chutney Compote and Pecans

12. Fold Fruit Chutney Through Rice, Beans and Stuffing

Add a spoonful of fruit chutney to your rice dishes, bean salads and stuffing mix for some additional fruit flavor and spice.  We love a tropical style pineapple chutney folded through rice and served with grilled shrimp skewers.  We also add date and orange chutney to our stuffing mix with fresh sage, thyme and rosemary.  You can also add some mango chutney to coconut rice and serve with chicken.

Pictured Below:  Herb Stuffing with Date and Orange Chutney and Pecans

Stuffing with Date Chutney and Herbs

13.  Garnish A Moroccan Stew or Tagine with Fruit Chutney

Add a chutney such as a date and orange chutney to your Moroccan tagines to add a touch of sweet dried fruit to the savory flavor profile.  Many Moroccan tagines (Moroccan stew) use both savory ingredients such as preserved lemons, garlic, onions and olives and balance the savory flavors with sweet dried fruits and aromatic spices such as cinnamon.  So adding a spiced dried fruit chutney can be used in place of your dried fruit ingredients when making something such as a lamb tagine.

14. Top Burgers, Pulled Pork Sandwiches and Meatball Subs with Chutney

Add a mango or pineapple chutney to your next turkey burger or BBQ pulled pork sandwich.  You can also glaze meatballs with sweet and spicy pepper jelly and serve in a sub roll with fresh veggies and mayo or top a chicken burger with Green Tomato Jalapeno Pepper Jelly for sweet tangy and spicy kick.

Pictured Below:  Chicken Meatball Sub with Thai Hot Pepper Jelly

Meatball Sub with Thai Hot Pepper Jelly Sauce

15.  Use As A Dipping Sauce

Use a tangy and spicy fruit chutney as a dipping sauce for eggrolls, beef skewers, fried shrimp, papadums, samosas, savory meat pies, fritters, chicken tenders and more.

16.  Use Fruit Chutneys To Season Vegetables

From brussels sprouts to green beans, a little chutney can add a wonderful sweet spiced addition to your veggie dishes.  You can mix up dried fruit chutney with toasted nuts and feta cheese and spoon over butternut squash or add an onion chutney to green beans with bacon.

Pictured Below:  Sauteed Brussels Sprouts with Balsamic Fig Mostarda and Bacon

Brussels Sprouts with Fig Chutney and Bacon

17.  Add Fruit Chutney To A Stir Fry

Add a sweet and spicy chutney to a stir fry of chicken, beef or tofu with veggies.  We love a beef stir fry with a little Thai Hot Pepper Jelly added to a soy sesame base and we add mango chutney to a chicken, green beans and cashew stir fry for a fresh mango pop.

18.  Spoon over Tacos

Spoon a sweet and spicy fruit chutney such as a mango chutney or pineapple chutney over shrimp tacos or beef and bean tacos with a little sour cream and a squeeze of fresh lime.  Delicious!

Pictured Below:  Blackened Fish Tacos with Jerk Pineapple Chutney

Blackened Fish Tacos with Pineapple Chutney

19.  Mix Fruit Chutneys Into Dips

Add a spoonful of fruit chutney to sour cream or cream cheese for a creamy dip that you can serve with crackers or vegetable crudité.  Cranberry chutney or pepper jelly with cream cheese is an easy crowd favorite during the holiday season.  Another delicious option is a tomato relish or a dried fruit chutney spooned over whipped goats cheese and served with crostini.  Adding a fig chutney to an olive tapenade helps offsets the saltiness of the olives and adds a deeper richer flavor to the tapenade.

20.  Add Fruit Chutney To Crock Pot Meals

Add fruit chutney to the crockpot when making meals such as crockpot pulled pork or party meatballs.  From cranberry meatballs to pineapple pork to mango chicken to Moroccan stew.

21.  Fruit Chutney For Holiday Entertaining

Fruit chutney during the holidays is a staple pantry ingredient and makes a gorgeous and tasty accompaniment to holiday appetizers, cheese plates, baked brie, roasted meats and charcuterie boards.  From Thanksgiving turkey with cranberry chutney to a baked brie with an apricot cherry sultana chutney, a fruit chutney is a must-have condiment during the holidays (at least in our house).

10 Ways To Use Serrano Hot Sauce

10 Ways To Use Serrano Hot Sauce

Our Serrano Cilantro Lime Hot Sauce is fresh, vibrant, tangy and spicy.  We make this sauce by simmering fresh serrano peppers with fresh garlic, fresh chopped cilantro, onions, fresh lime juice, cider vinegar and spices.  For those who love that "green style" hot sauce with a fresh tangy bite, this is it.  Here are the top 10 ways we use our Serrano Cilantro Lime Hot Sauce.

1.  An Accompaniment To Tacos, Fajitas and Enchiladas

A "verdé" style hot sauce such as our Serrano Cilantro Lime Hot Sauce is a staple accompaniment to have when serving a variety of Mexican dishes including some of our favorites: tacos, fajitas and enchiladas!  Simply drizzle atop chicken fajitas, Mexican carnitas or grilled shrimp tacos for some tangy spicy heat.

2. Wings

If you are looking for some fresh tang and heat on your wings then Serrano Cilantro Lime Hot Sauce is a top pick.  From grilled wings to fried wings to fried cauliflower bites, this sauce is an alternative to your traditional buffalo style hot sauce.

3.   Mix Serrano Hot Sauce Into Dips, Salsa and Mayo

Add our Serrano Cilantro Lime Hot Sauce to guacamole for extra flavor and heat, mix into a salsa, add to queso cheese dip or mix in sour cream for dipping taquitos or tortilla chips.  Add to mayo and dress a chicken sandwich or drizzle over roasted veggies.

4. Eggs

Add a dash (or a big dollop if you may) of Serrano Hot Sauce to all your egg dishes from scrambled eggs to omelettes to quiche.

Pictured Below:  Velvety Scrambled Eggs with Serrano Hot Sauce and Grilled Bread

Eggs with Serrano Hot Sauce

5.  Burritos

Who doesn't love a burrito without a little hot sauce?  or at least some chili?  Red or Green right?  {I choose green}  Add Serrano hot sauce to a bean and cheese burrito or a Southwest style breakfast burrito with sausage, eggs, peppers and cheese.

6.  Soups, Stews and Chili

You can add a dash of Serrano Hot Sauce to a number of soups, stews or chili if you want to add a little extra bright spicy kick.  It's especially delicious on a cold winters night when you just need to take the chill off.  We use it in Tex Mex style beef and bean chilis, we add it to chicken noodle and corn soup and to Salsa Verde Chicken Soup (the recipe below uses our Kiwi Lime Salsa Verde but we always add extra Serrano Hot Sauce at the end for that extra kick)

Pictured Below:  Salsa Verde Chicken Soup {we use our Kiwi Lime Salsa Verde in the broth of this but we top it with fresh avocado, cilantro, sour cream and a drizzle of Serrano hot sauce for extra oomph}

Salsa Verde Chicken Soup with Hot Sauce

7. Add Hot Sauce To A Marinade

Add a tablespoon of Serrano Cilantro Lime Hot Sauce to a mix of olive oil, lime juice, cilantro, garlic, cumin, salt and pepper for a chicken marinade for fajitas and tacos.  Add a dash of Serrano Hot Sauce to some soy sauce, honey, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, garlic and vinegar for a delicious flank steak marinade.

8. Beans and Rice Dishes

Drizzle over all your bean and rice dishes, burrito bowls, shrimp and grits or polenta.

9. Seafood Sauce

Serve it on it's own or add to mayo for a lime-y spicy creamy dip for fried shrimp, calamari, crab or fish.  Delicious on fish tacos, shrimp tostadas and crab cakes.

10. Pizza

Need that tangy kick of spice on your pizza?  I feel ya.  I personally love a Serrano Hot Sauce or a "green" style hot sauce on my sweeter or richer style pizza's such as BBQ chicken, bacon ranch, a meat lover's or a steak and cheese pizza.

What is Shawarma and How To Use It in Recipes

What is Shawarma and How To Use It in Recipes

Shawarma History

What is Shawarma and how is it different from Turkish Döner, Greek Gyros and even the more modern day Mexican dish "tacos al pastor” or "tacos de trompo"?  The short answer is essentially nothing, as all of these "rotisserie" cooking styles or dishes originate from the same place and point in time, that being the Ottoman empire in the early 19th Century which is now modern day Turkey.

What is Shawarma Style Of Cooking?

All of these styles of "shawarma" cooking use thin slices of seasoned meat, stacked in an inverted cone shaped skewer which are roasted on a slowly turning vertical rotisserie or spit.  Shawarma is the Arabic derivative of the Ottoman word "çervirme," which means "turning" where as the modern day Turkish word Döner is derived from donmek, which means “one that turns”.  Gyro means “ring or round” and Trompo means “spinning top".

Shawarma Spice Flavor Profile

The difference between these rotisserie style cooking methods comes down to the choice of meat and with what it is seasoned with.  This as a result is where all these culinary styles carve (pun intended) their own delicious paths and where Shawarma distinctively sets itself apart.  What I love about the Middle Eastern Shawarma seasoning is its layering of exotic sweet spices missing from the other styles of seasoning.

Shawarma seasoning embraces the sweet spices of cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice but is balanced with savory spices including cumin, paprika, oregano, ginger and black pepper.  The aromatics that pour out of the kitchen or off the grill while your Shawarma is cooking, is simply exquisite.

Difference Between a Dry Shawarma Spice Blend and A Shawarma Marinade

A dry Shawarma spice blend recipe will usually add an acid as part of the marinade recipe.  Most often this is lemon juice or vinegar along with olive oil.  We here at Wozz! incorporate the addition of acid ingredients which gives us a second opportunity to layer even more flavor and increase the depth of an already wonderful seasoning. This is what sets Wozz! Middle Eastern Shawarma apart from a regular dry spice mix.  Not only is the spice blend ready to go in its entirety but we have layered it with candied orange and fresh orange juice for citrusy sweetness and preserved lemon for a salted toned down lemon zing adding vibrancy to the marinade.  All of these flavors are brought together in an infusion of black tea, and for anyone who’s been to the Middle East or Turkey knows that the sipping of tea is as customary as breathing.   This combination of savory and sweet spices with fresh citrus lends to a delicious complex marinade.

Shawarma Uses and Application

The practical application of such a deep flavored marinade is as diverse as its ingredients. Shawarma is a great way to enjoy all your flatbread and pita style sandwiches whether using shawarma marinated animal protein or vegetables. Shawarma is a wonderful marinade for beef, lamb or chicken and is a fantastic vegan seasoning for roasted cauliflower, falafel and winter root vegetables.

Additional ways to use Shawarma?  To season ground meats for meatballs, patties, cabbage rolls and kebabs. With Shawarma, you can also season rice dishes, salad ingredients like chickpeas and lentils and all your favorite dips and sides. This seasoning is not just for Middle Eastern recipes either;  Its a great addition to a roast dinner, to season all your vegetable sides or for a Greek Moussaka (a Greek beef and eggplant lasagna), stuffed zucchini and of course all of your favorite soups, stews and curries.
